Coming out of wire reducing and sizing unit and its benefits

Aug. 02, 2022

With the vigorous development of automotive and other manufacturing industries, higher requirements are put forward for the size accuracy and performance of wire and bar, which leads to the rapid development and promotion of wire reducing and sizing units.

In the 1980s, Japanese manufacturing industry, especially automobile manufacturing, developed rapidly. In order to create their own competitive advantage, manufacturers require raw materials suppliers to provide materials with high precision, high strength, good quality, wide range and specifications, which can reduce the amount of secondary processing, reduce the weight of products and reduce the manufacturing cost of products.

At that time, Datong Iron and Steel Company of Japan managed to satisfy the users'requirements in order to obtain more orders. In the early 1980s, it developed a bar sizing machine called Teksin rolling mill. Then, in cooperation with Morgan Company, it developed a high-speed wire rolling mill sizing unit in the late 1980s, one set of two stands with a roll diameter of 150 mm. Because of its compact structure, it was named 150CSM. After production tests, they believe that the best effect sizing unit is to put two sets of two sets of 150CSM in series, which can be used either in one group or in two groups at the same time. In this way, the pass before the sizing unit can be made into a single series. Wire rolling mills in Datong Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. and Chita Co., Ltd. are equipped with such units.

In the 1990s, the V-type two-stand finishing mill (MEB) designed by Morgan for the retrofit of the old rolling mill in Orbegozo, Spain, was put into production.

After Morgan combined the advantages of the 150CSM rolling mill of the second group with that of the 230MFB rolling mill, the first group of 150CSM rolling mill was replaced by the 230MFB rolling mill, forming the current reducing and sizing mill called RSM (Reducing/sizing mill). The first was installed in USS/KOBE plant in USA and put into operation in 1995.

In just three years thereafter, by 1998, Morgan had manufactured 11 sets of reducing and sizing units. Because of its tremendous superiority in use, it is very popular with users. Other companies such as SMS, Danieli and Pomini have developed their own calibration units with similar ideas.

The appearance of reducing and sizing units has greatly improved wire production technology.
